This Brain Academy pupil book has been specifically developed to extend the more able in maths and support able, gifted and talented numeracy teaching at Key Stage 1. It offers a range of more than 50 highly visual and challenging maths problems which are brought to life through the use of fun text, colourful graphics and interesting situations.
The books feature a series of characters that are part of the Brain Academy organisation, run by the mysterious Da Vinci. Children work with these characters to complete a number of ‘missions’, each involving the use of logic and numeracy topics. Progression through the book involves completing these missions and solving the problems with the help of sample ‘training missions’ and useful tips. The book ends with a list of suggested strategies and a useful TASC problem solving wheel. The answers are not included in this book – the solutions to all the missions are included in the Brain Academy Teacher’s Book.
The series has been written, developed and tested by practising teachers, gifted and talented consultants and NACE advisors, and may be used by schools working towards the NACE Challenge Award.
