Chiltern Tutorial School: A specialist school for children with dyslexia.

Chiltern Tutorial School is a small school in Hampshire for Dyslexic Children, established in September 1995, by Jane and Bruce Gaudie, for children with specific learning difficulties (dyslexia.). The school developed as a small day school in their own home and grounds. On this site the school grew from three children to sixteen children. In 2001 the school moved to new facilities in Otterbourne. The school now has places for eighteen children and is registered with the Department for Education and Skills. Contact Jane and Bruce on 01962 860482. Chiltern Tutorial uses Phono-Graphix and multi-scensory teaching methods. for more information about Chiltern Tutorial read the OFSTED report and a students report.

What the Parents have to say

The only comment we can make is, 'wonderful and thank you.'
The main thing that sticks in my mind is Luke coming out of school three days after he started with you and proudly announcing as we crossed the car park, with a look of wonderment on his face - 'Mum, my teacher knows exactly how I think!' From then on he has gone from strength to strength, he has matured, he is more articulate above all, he is happy. ……………….

For the first time Richard is happy to go to school!
He enjoys his lessons and does not realise how much he is learning, he thinks it's just fun. He is now a happy little boy with no more tears. Thank you……………..

Our daughter had not enjoyed going to school for a long time. So when she was counting how many hours to school , just like Christmas, it made moving to Chiltern all worthwhile…………...

Our child's work is improving but it is the improvement in self-esteem and confidence that has been amazing……………..

After just a few weeks at the school our daughter changed from a very quiet, sad child into a bubbly chatterbox…………………….

Aim of the School

is to provide a happy, supportive and caring environment in which children will be motivated to learn. Children are provided with strategies to build up their self - esteem and to acquire essential skills in order to make a successful return to mainstream education.

  • · Pupils have full access to the National Curriculum
  • · On entering the school the pupils are assessed and an Individual Education Plan is drawn up and then reviewed every term.
  • · The school has a consultant psychologist available for parents to consult who also provides the teaching staff with support and advice

At Chiltern School

teaching methods are based on:

  • building on strengths
  • multi-sensory methods
  • setting precise and achievable goals
  • organisation skills
  • valuing effort
  • encouraging independence
  • fostering self-esteem

At Chiltern School

we emphasise the importance of a holistic approach to learning encompassing the creative, emotional, moral, physical and intellectual potential of each child.

We Believe

that children working in small groups in a small school are able to feel secure and more self confident, teachers and staff know their pupils as individuals and meet their learning needs.

The Curriculum

Children work at their own level and pace using structured and multi-sensory methods. Literacy and numeracy are taught in small groups. The proximity of the school to Winchester and the surrounding countryside means that history, geography and science topics can be brought to life by visits and outings.
